September 2007 and coming into Canada I realized how culturally displaced I was, not only in thinking, in language, but in how I fancied Christmas would be. However, I get to celebrate the Holidays.. The “Happy Holidays” with a cornucopia of different celebrations. Although I was happy to know the vast diversity in celebrations, I tried to fit in the mold, so as to steer away from the Holiday that has defined, not only myself, but my identity.

OPM or Original Philippine MusicĀ  began its rise during the 70’s. During this time the Filipino mainstream music had much foreign influence and the music was more dance oriented with the world evolving and changing with the times.

APO Hiking Society

Pop groups then showed the emergence of VST and Co, Tito Vic and Joey, Hotdog, and APO Hiking Society to name a few. Although their music was called OPM, there was a striking resemblance with their sound to the Pop music playing in the West.

intern@Kapisanan: Anato-Me

Being at Kapisanan, I have been exposed to so many forms of media, and one of them is visual art. With the newest addition of the Kariton Collective, I have broaden my horizons when pen and paper is at hand.

Last Saturday, I was stoked for my second consecutive Drawing Circle workshop focusing on Anatomy or the Human figure. In the beginning of the workshop, we discussed on how the drawing of the human figure evolved as well as the techniques to assist novice artists.

Somewhere deep within the urban jungle, is a place just for you. Here at Kapisanan, we cater to all minds and personalities for workshops, meetings, rehearsals, theater readings and events.

Poetry Readings

Kapisanan also offers a variety of audio and visual equipment available for rental along with the space. There are mics and speakers, and the equipment is available for less than other venues out there. The K is large enough to comfortably seat up to 80 people.
